The Palisades Country Club's championship course opened in 2007 under Jack Nicklaus's signature. Nicklaus's design brief was explicit: use the land, don't fight it. The result is a routing that respects the peninsula's mature hardwoods, drops several holes toward Lake Wylie's finger coves, and asks the golfer to think as much as it asks them to swing.

The best courses are the ones that reveal themselves slowly. Twenty years in, we're still finding new lines.

The front nine sets the tempo — wider corridors, longer par-4s, and a set of par-3s that ask the golfer to shape the ball into small, elevated greens. The heart of the layout lives on the second nine, where four consecutive holes brush the Lake Wylie shoreline. The closing stretch is deliberate theater: a reachable par-5, a genuinely difficult par-3, and a home hole that plays uphill to a clubhouse-fronted green with real spectator seating.

Course conditioning at The Palisades is maintained to a tournament standard year-round, with Bermuda fairways overseeded for winter play and A1/A4 bentgrass greens rolling in the 11-plus range during member season. The maintenance program is led by a superintendent with two decades of Carolinas country-club experience and a crew of twenty.

The practice facility rivals the course. A double-ended driving range, dedicated short-game complex with three greens and practice bunkers, and a large practice green support a full teaching program led by PGA professionals. Junior clinics run year-round, and adult instruction is offered in both private and clinic formats.

A significant share of The Palisades' finest estates sit on the golf course. Course-frontage lots enjoy protected views into fairways and greens, and the community's architectural guidelines ensure that homes read as background to the golf rather than foreground. It is possible, and common, for residents to walk from their home to the tee.
